I've created a special feature for the print media and broadcasters ("Page Nine" regardless of where it runs), that covers stories afresh, not the way news rooms typically flavor things. It would help reduce the distrust so many news consumers feel and could be the most avidly followed item you carry -- if you carry it. It certainly is well received by my audience.

This casual sample might make you say, "We'll NEVER run that!" but Page Nine is being built around ad revenues from clear-thinking mainstream businesses.

CORRECTIONS:

My Constitutional Carry article needs a few adjustments. 1) This Arizona law is the first statute in the continental U.S. that removes all obstacles to discreetly bearing arms in the state, no permit required, no residency required (but you better know our state laws to stay out of jail). 2) The law recognizes all sorts of training as valid, including any NRA firearms safety or training course, if you still want to apply for a permission slip. 3) The 8-hour government-designed course, with minimal range time (only 10 shots required) is still available, valid, and being taught. 4) Because open carry has always been legal here, it doesn't matter if a discreetly carried arm "shows," but it is considered bad form.

"Discreet" is the term preferred over "concealed," to avoid the negative sense of something to hide. It's all spelled out on my Updates page http://www.gunlaws.com/updates.htm. Also, 31 states currently recognize our permits (I had said 23, leaving out eight states that signed contracts with us).

Also note, naysayers predicted bloodbaths in bars, promoted by the media, when our discreet-carry in restaurants bill was enacted last year. Nothing happened, no correction has been issued. The same tired paranoid claim has been made repeatedly over Constitutional Carry (and every other freedom we enjoy here).

More STARTERS than usual:

I have a fascinating new FAQ posted, suggested by a Sheriff -- "Why doesn't someone just file a lawsuit and fix
all our gun problems? Should I do it?" http://www.gunlaws.com/faq.htm

Sometimes it seems like anything I do takes me forever: I now have a page up for Women's Issues, with books, DVDs, special Position Papers, links to national women's groups and a set of teaching aids for home schoolers or any students.

National Training Week, widely endorsed, is the time when Americans everywhere are encouraged to go to a range and exercise their right to keep and bear arms. YOU help make this happen, by encouraging your local range to offer one-hour free handgun rentals. That's the big draw. It costs the range little, they're part of a national movement, they earn on extra traffic and range fees, and you get to try out some new gun you've been eyeing. Look how many groups endorse the idea, get the simple 3-step plan, and read Congressman John Shadegg's endorsement. Download the logo which can print fliers or a banner of any size. http://www.gunlaws.com/NationalTrainingWeek.htm

Harder to do than I imagined, and better than I could have guessed: Our out-of-print, 672-page unabridged-through-2003 Supreme Court Gun Cases is now available as a fully searchable CD or emailed set of files, at a fraction of the original cost. Even if you don't get one, the page for this item has a ton of amazing stuff and case summaries.

HIGH SCHOOL MARKSMANSHIP: Does your state have a high school that teaches firearms safety and marksmanship? We need to identify such schools nationally as part of an effort to reintroduce firearms safety and marksmanship back into schools. You can't even teach history properly without a solid grounding in firearms. America needs this. If yes, you need to obtain contact info for the people running the program (email, phone, street-mail address, school name). Let me know: mailto:alan@gunlaws.com?subject=Marksmanship

1- State Department Infringement

The lamestream media told you:

Nothing.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

I've just learned from a highly placed and reliable personal source that, in a quiet move to restrict gun ownership, the Obama White House has directly instructed the State Department to do what's necessary to prevent predominantly WWII American firearms from being imported back into the United States.

Most imports are not under the jurisdiction of the State Dept., and are controlled by statute and regulations that require very public actions to change. This is another clandestine anti-gun-rights move being taken by the Obama administration, along with a series of treaties and U.N. plans to severely limit or ban American gun ownership.

The main effect of this move is, without fanfare or public attention, to stop the flow of fine M1 Garand and M1 carbine rifles into the hands of American citizens. The M1 is an affordable, accurate, dependable, and exceptionally well-made general-purpose American rifle. Made in .30 caliber, it was the first auto-loading rifle generally issued to the infantry of any nation.

I have not been able to determine the exact quantity of such rifles being held overseas, but the number is believed to be in the millions.

The Obama team in the White House has stunned observers with its eerie silence on so-called "gun control," or efforts to disarm the public. On taking office there was wide anticipation of major action is this area, to reflect the unmitigated anti-gun-rights records of Obama and his coterie. The gun-rights lobby has been hard pressed to explain the lull, pointing to a mere few slips of the tongue by the president, his attorney general or a few other top-level staffers. The Brady Campaign for the Promotion of Gun Violence has given the administration a rating of "F" on gun control, reflecting a virtually complete lack of publicly visible activity.

The most likely explanation probably includes the uproar over the federal health-care takeover, where no army of protestors had even existed or were poised for action, yet rose with tremendous fury in astonishing numbers. This group coalesced into the core of the now ubiquitous Tea Party.

Administration officials and Obama himself likely recognize that the backlash they would face if they publicly came after Americans' guns would make the health-care hurricane look like a mild summer breeze.

Obama though has announced plans to go after "criminal gun smuggling" with two international treaties that would bypass the U.S. Congress. Both treaties would introduce draconian levels of gun control and confiscation on Americans, despite administration promises otherwise. The CIFTA treaty terms are known and already analyzed. Under CIFTA, changing any feature on a firearm, like adding a sling or changing a sight without an undefined government "manufacturing" license, would subject a person to arrest. Reloading ammo would be similarly banned.

The U.N. treaty, being drafted in secret with cooperation from Hillary Clinton, can only be guessed at based on previous U.N. public-disarmament attempts. An international group, IAPCAR, has been formed under the leadership of Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation, to monitor and resist planned rights denials. The Uninvited Ombudsman report will feature those activities in the near future.

2- U.N. Firearms Trace

The lamestream media told you:

Nothing

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Connecticut-based National Shooting Sports Foundation has learned that the United Nations has filed what is apparently its first firearms trace request with U.S. authorities. http://nssf.org/newsroom/releases/show.cfm?PR=033010.cfm

The move by the United Nations, whose so-called bill of rights doesn't recognize self defense, and which has long advocated for civilian disarmament, raises concerns: "Firearms trace data is a law enforcement tool to help aid in specific criminal investigations," according to NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane. "Our concerns with this trace request stem from U.N. efforts to impose arms trade control treaties that would lead to a ban on the civilian possession and ownership of firearms, possibly even in the United States despite Second Amendment protections and the recent Supreme Court decision (Heller v. District of Columbia) reaffirming that Americans have an individual right to keep and bear arms."

The trace request appears to have been an isolated incident but there is no way to know for certain. "We remain increasingly concerned that ongoing efforts to restrict or ban the civilian and private ownership of firearms taking place at the United Nations will severely restrict and frustrate the lawful international commerce in sporting firearms and ammunition products and undermine the United States' national sovereignty and America's cherished firearms freedoms protected by the Second Amendment and our hunting and shooting sports heritage," concluded Keane.

The Uninvited Ombudsman has been working on a report about the U.N.'s anti-rights activities in the gun debate, which is expected soon. The Second Amendment Foundation (http://www.saf.org) is leading an effort to coordinate nations against proposed U.N. sanctions restricting  individual human rights.

3- GLBT Discrimination Ignored

The lamestream media told you:

The Republican National Committee's finance director and his deputy were forced out of office as the organization still reels from $2,000 in reimbursements for donors to attend a lesbian bondage-themed nightclub in Los Angeles, according to reports gleefully posted on all major lamestream media outlets.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Blatant discrimination against a perfectly legal lesbian entertainment venue in Los Angeles has avoided the notice of the ACLU, the nation's leading defender of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender oppressed groups. No one at ACLU was reached for comment.

"This is perfectly legal activity, and quite sexually thrilling, having been featured in James Bond films, major magazines and TV sitcoms for decades," said one observer wearing a latex mask to conceal its identity. "Why is the news media so upset about business people going to this sort of show, when media and Hollywood types revel in this sort of thing all the time? Is it just an attack on Republicans for stepping outside their box, into a box filled with lesbians?"

Speculation that it gave democrats a way to tie up republicans, even though that would be hypocritical, could not be confirmed. The suggestion that only non-sexual, alcohol-free, milquetoast entertainment was acceptable was not taken seriously by anyone. No pictures from the nightclub in question were provided, to many folks' dismay.

4- Discreet vs. Concealed

The lamestream media told you:

Nothing, but firearm-permit holders are very concerned about this core issue.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Now that Arizona has broken ground with its new no-permit-needed Freedom To Carry law (effective 7/29/10, also called Constitutional Carry), efforts are underway to deny anti-rights bigots an upper hand in the battle of words that frames so many civil rights debates.

"Concealed carry," the term government prefers, implies you have something to hide," said numerous long-time permit holders. "Now that Arizona has normalized the right to keep and bear arms, it makes much more sense to always refer to discreet carry as discreet carry. Nothing requires you to be a showboat in your ownership or possession of any private property unless you want to be."

Writer and friend Don Kline insightfully notes that, "One thing I make a point of when discussing discreet carry is the fact that traditionally, and as a doctrine of law, tyrants would like us to forget we have a right to exercise our rights PRIVATELY.  Being forced to carry openly if we carry at all is not only a violation of our right to bear arms, it is a violation of our right to privacy."

This point has been made in The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide for years, which noted that no-option open carry, despite its romantic appeal, is actually a reduction of your rights and makes it inconvenient to bear arms in many situations (p. 54).

"Paul Helmke and his ilk like to advance the theory that people have a right to know if someone around them is armed. They don't. They are already on notice that someone around them may be armed -- the Second Amendment and the Arizona Constitution places them on notice," Cline accurately observes. Helmke (leader of the Brady group) is merely posturing of course, and together with his scant membership hates knowing anyone has a firearm.

5- Campus Violence Rising?

The lamestream media told you:

"Report Details Rise In Targeted Campus Violence --  Targeted college campus violence, from serious assaults to the mass shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007, is up sharply over the past two decades. The number of cases rose from 40 during the 1980s to 79 in the 1990s and 83 since 2000, says a study issued Friday by the FBI, Secret Service and Education Department. The cause of the rise is unknown, though the report noted a dramatic rise in college-student enrollment in the past 20 years." http://tinyurl.com/2w9h3sd

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

If criminal assaults on one million students rise from 40 per decade, to 80 per decade on two million students, there is no rise in the rate of assaults, students effected per capita, or ratio of safety students enjoy.

Associated Press reporter Pete Yost did acknowledge a "dramatic rise in college student enrollment" between the decades being studied, but failed to provide any information that would allow an intelligent person to make a meaningful comparison.

Very often this occurs because the agency that handed the prefabricated information to the "reporter" didn't include it, and the reporter did little but arrange to publish the government-funded-and-written handout. This did not prevent the reporter, the editor, or anyone in the wire-service chain of command out to the local outlets from proclaiming a rise in violence, which might have occurred, who knows.

If student enrollment more than doubled during the period, the rate of violence would have decreased. This type of mathematical ineptitude is unfortunately common for the AP and "news" outlets nationwide, leaving the public either uninformed or misinformed. The public, largely educated in government schools, typically does not notice, just like the media that propagates the trash in the first place.

6- Maybe Earthquakes Likely

The lamestream media told you:

The Southern California Earthquake Center predicts there is a 46% chance the state will have an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 or more in the next 30 years, according to Discover magazine.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Once again demonstrating a complete inability to handle stories with numbers, an article with zero factual validity has made it into print. The amazing thing in this case is the story appeared in Discover magazine, sometimes considered a "science" outlet. Its "science" has gotten so bad that the Uninvited Ombudsman discontinued a gift subscription, due to excessive politics and incompetent scientific content.

The prediction above can neither be proven nor disproven -- it has the unique junk-science quality of only being correct. Think -- if such an earthquake occurs, it's true. If no earthquake occurs, it's true. If California has any earthquake, of any magnitude whatsoever, or no earthquake, in the next 30 years, the prediction is accurate. Look at it again. It will be correct no matter what actually occurs in California. The reporter, editors and science center overlooked this small detail, and could not be reached for comment.

In other news, a brain-damaged drooling idiot reportedly reported that he believes California has a fifty-fifty chance of having earthquakes, nearly equaling the prediction of the Southern California Earthquake Center, a consortium of over 600 scientists at 55 research institutions with massive funding. It was determined at press time that the funding is taken from the public by force through taxation, and doled out through two separate federal agencies.

7- Mysterious Tea Party

The lamestream media told you:

We don't understand the Tea Party, but we sure don't like it.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

The Tea Party movement, as I've witnessed it, is merely a direct response from Americans who are distressed at the way the nation is headed. These are deeply concerned newly activated citizens (they key point) who have self-appoint themselves as members, and assemble in meetings, rallies and online, and are massing in huge numbers. They do not include many people from the left, for reasons that were unclear at press time.

They are centrists (not right wingers) who firmly hold centrist American values (limited government, low taxes, delegated powers only, individual responsibility, free enterprise, free markets, property ownership, capitalism, moral values, charity, rule of law, etc.) but are called right wing by the left wing, which is simply inaccurate. Those core American beliefs these people hold defines them as centrists. Now a group seems to be out to discredit the Tea Party, by infiltrating the meetings and causing trouble. I can't tell how or where this comes from, but you should at least know the idea is floating around out there.

Now more than ever it's important to understand what the Founding Fathers believed in and wanted for America. I've made that easier with The Founders Package, 11 key books the Founders read and wrote. Just my posted summaries will give you the tip of the iceberg, so look. 8- Government Extorts Toyota

The lamestream media told you:

The government is considering a fine of $16 million to Toyota for the car maker's failure to alert customers and authorities in a timely way about its accelerator problems. Toyota has not yet decided whether to pay the fine or fight it.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

In a move that signals the advance of borderless-giant power struggles, one big boy on the block has decided to demand money from another big boy, and the boys are fighting it out. "This has nothing to do with the rule of law or international relations," said one expert who reads the newspapers. "This if about people in our government who figure they have enough power to demand money from a car-maker rival." (U.S. government now owns controlling interests in certain car manufacturing). "The amount could be half or double what they're seeking, or nothing at all, it's completely arbitrary and at the whim of the people in power," she said, on condition of being excluded from the suit.

The important thing, according to some knowledgeable observers, is that it is consumers who suffered the harm, but financially impoversihed government that rakes in the cash, an ongoing trend. Authorities recently played this trick on air travelers, charging airlines enormous fees for leaving travelers stuck in planes on the tarmac, and keeping the case for themselves. More travelers are expected to suffer in the future, letting government extort more cash.

Rumors that toy Yoda action figures are being recalled for defects could not be confirmed.

--------

9- Uninformed Immigration Stupidity

The lamestream media told you:

Arizona has enacted Senate Bill 1070, the most racist, un-American, racially profiling bigoted travesty of a statute, imitating the Nazis, and usurping legitimate federal authority that the world has ever known, bubble, rant, foam, hyperventilate. In other news, 70% of the public supports the law.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

None of the national news on this issue has been accurate. It's a mess of lies, distortion, half-baked info and silliness, from people who could not possibly have read the bill and said the things they've said, unless they were racist, un-American, bigoted, foaming reporters pressing ahead with a pre-fabricated agenda, determined to use Arizona as a whipping boy for their own failures.

Everyone's against illegal immigration until you do something to stop it, then they're all against you. The conclusion is simple. Illegal immigration is a sanctioned and carefully managed program of the federal government, in direct cooperation with Mexico. It has to be, to move 2,500 to 5,000 people per day up to and through the border. It is an unmitigated invasion.

The only thing racist about it is that white people and Norwegians aren't the ones trying to break in. Of course illegally present Latinos are the ones at risk to be sent back, because they're the perps. Everyone knows that. Legal residents are unaffected and openly welcomed in Arizona.

Anyone without valid ID in this country in this day and age is at least mildly suspect and subject to further inquiry if legitimately stopped on other grounds -- way before this law was enacted. The difference is mainly that those here illegally are now guilty of being here illegal under state law and can be dealt with, since the federal policy is to encourage their presence and the harm they cause this good state.

And reasonable suspicion, a root condition of this law, is a well-defined standard, not some arbitrary inquisition as the media has claimed. With all the scrutiny this is getting, you think enforcement officers are just going to stop people without cause? And none of that makes it into the news, just blather about persecutions and arbitrary actions, none of which have happened, because the law doesn't go into effect for months (on 7/29/10).

"As many as six out of every 10 Central American women and girls are raped as they pass through Mexico hoping to cross illegally into the United States, Amnesty International reports. The rapists include criminal gang members as well as local authorities in collusion with them," according to Rupert Knox, a researcher in Mexico. http://tinyurl.com/2ervdj6. The National Organization for Women was not reached for comment.

10- 16,800 Firearms Careers

The lamestream media told you:

Unemployment is up, the economy is ailing, the nation is in difficult financial straights, banks are tanking and things don't look particularly good on the horizon, according to standardized mantra on evening "news" broadcasts.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A newly commissioned report detailing the significant economic impact the firearms and ammunition industry has on the nation and each state's economy has been released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry. Because the news involves the precious Second Amendment right of Americans to keep and bear arms, it was largely ignored by the lamestream media.

"During difficult economic times and high unemployment rates nationally, our industry actually grew and created 16,800 new, well-paying jobs," According to NSSF President Steve Sanetti.

The industry swelled its ranks from 166,200 jobs in 2008, to 183,424 jobs in 2009, during a time when jobs nationally were disappearing. President Obama and fear of his anti-rights policies provided some impetus for the growth. Gun shops nationwide feature his picture with the caption, "Salesman of the Year."

Salaries in the industry grew from $6,361,205,400 in 2008 to $8,210,881,000 in 2009, or more than $1.8 billion, which is a lot, according to leading experts.

The economic impact grew from $19 billion to nearly $27 billion during the period, which is also a lot.

The industry's contribution to the tax bases for 2008 to 2009 includes federal tax growth from $1,503,740,471 to $2,035,154,440, state taxes from $1,299,088,678 to $1,909,417,793 and excise taxes, the main contributor of wildlife conservation efforts from $327,070,867 to $450,177,780.

The economic growth coincided with the continued decline in accidental firearm-related deaths (more than a 60 percent decrease in the last 20 years) and a continued drop in crime rates nationally.

"In 2009 our industry increased its contribution to wildlife conservation by over 37.6 percent, which translates into sportsmen contributing more than $7.5 million dollars daily to conservation efforts," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.

Members of NSSF went on to speak with members of Congress after the figures were announced, to help reduce harmful legislative meddling with the economy and our rights, and to encourage policies that advance the businesses and create new jobs.

Tremendously un-gentlemanly of you, to count the sloppy diction of a news reporter against scientists.  And to read that story as scientists expressing "surprise that ice changes its location and form in Antarctica" takes some real malice.  Clearly the words of the scientists as quoted show that this was not surprising at all. When you stick to firearms issues, you're usually fair-minded and honest.  This "climategate"-style twisting of scientists' words, misattribution, and outright fabrication of others' positions doesn't do you any favors. -BSK

[Sorry to disappoint Bennett, and others have implored me to be a one-trick pony and stick to gun law and related issues, but if you follow my work you know I'm eclectic and always back up what I publish. The quotes were attributed. If you read the story, linked below, you might conclude it was worse than I made it out to be. Antarctica is behaving in a "crazy" way, and scientists ignored, yes ignored, half the continent, to focus on the half they thought was a global-warming victim. My goal as The Uninvited Ombudsman is to expose the tripe that passes for "news," the self-evident malarkey that reporters fail to question, and to remove the gullibility blinders from people who just absorb all the balderdash without using the brains they were blessed with. http://tinyurl.com/yd9bob8. I stand by my work in this case (and as you may know make prompt prominent corrections when I'm in error). -Alan.]
