CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY
Will "Freedom To Carry" replace "Right To Carry"? The right to discreetly bear arms should not require a government-issued permission slip, with paperwork, approvals, classes, testing, fingerprints, photographs, criminal-database lists, taxes called fees and expiration dates. Alaska passed it. Vermont has always had it. Texas got a good chunk of it in 2007 -- and everyone is still alive. Your state should have its rights restored too.

BILL OF RIGHTS DAY 2009 - AT THE WRIGLEY MANSION!
Coming Dec. 15, 2009 -- Honor the Bill of Rights at the exquisite Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix, on the day it was ratified back in 1791. An evening you won't forget, with special guest "George Washington," and a solemn reading, out loud, from a parchment copy of the document that changed the world. Refreshments, companionship, a splendid time is guaranteed for all. Can't get to Phoenix? Celebrate at a place near you.
Read about last year's event -- people aren't in the streets with pitchforks yet, but a lot of anger is festering over the way politicians are trampling our fundamental rights.

BLOOMFIELD PRESS FILES AMICUS IN CHICAGO GUN-BAN CASE
Should individual states be required to honor your guarantees under the Bill of Rights? Bloomfield Press has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to say yes, in an amicus ("friend of the court") brief just filed (11/23/09). The goal is to require states to be bound by the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Read the brief, it's fascinating -- armed self defense is a well-recognized, deeply rooted fundamental right.

THE CONSTITUTIONAL DIVIDE
People talk about the left vs. the right. Well there is a left in America for sure, attached
to the very opposite of what America stands for. But what people mistakenly call "the right"
is really the core -- central values that make America the shining beacon of freedom it is.
A simple chart spells it out, easy to reprint for people who need a political slap upside the head.
Helps promote The American Way.

THE AMERICAN WAY
I gave a speech to a large group on Patriot's Day, commemorating the shot heard 'round the world. Several thousand people turned out on a nice sunny day and to my surprise, constantly interrupted with applause. Seems I touched a nerve with this uplifting view of what makes America great. Many asked for a copy of the speech. Here it is. Permission to circulate gladly granted.

AZ NEWS -- 9 NEW LAWS BEGIN, ACLU HELPS GUN OWNERS (unintentionally)
Get plain-English descriptions of the new laws taking effect Sep. 30, 2009; Order the new 24th edition of The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide coming out shortly; The state gets a new gun-rights PAC that deserves vigorous support; Don't miss the huge open-carry banquet Oct 3. in Tucson; our main Phoenix-metro outdoor marksmanship spot needs a hand.

GUNS AT OBAMA RALLY SEND MEDIA BALLISTIC
Normal open carry in Phoenix made international news because the President was in the city at the time. Under any other conditions, it would not have even been noticed, let alone mentioned for days on end. Yes, the citizen was black, just like the president, a fact that the media hid. The gun was a one-shot-at-a-time sport-utility rifle, not a machine gun. No corrections are expected. My editorial about the non-event ran in 550,000 copies of the state's Sunday paper.

MODEL LEGISLATION
Politically savvy power brokers have bags full of "model legislation" -- sample laws they draft themselves, that serve their interests, and make it easy for legislators to introduce -- and enact. To preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the freedoms we cherish, this is a page we should have in our play book. Here are some models for starters, and we're looking for more, so speak up.

HEALTH-CARE BILL HAS CONTENT, NOT JUST HYPE
While the media plays poli-hype games with the health-care bill, the CONTENTS of the bill are overlooked -- and horrifying. A set of one-liners dissect the 1,100-page bill clearly with cross reference to every page and line; rationing, government chooses for you, doctors' practice run by bureaucrats, and end-your-life paperwork issued by appointed clerks. Serious implications for gun ownership -- are you "fit"?

SOTOMAYOR MISSES ALL 14 SELF DEFENSE CASES
Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor claimed she can't think of a single Supreme Court case that addresses self defense. Our research shows that fourteen separate Supreme Court cases, from 1895 to 1985, addressed every basic aspect of personal self defense. All of them held that self defense is a valid, justifiable and long-standing tenet of American law. They are all summarized here.

ARIZONA AND TEXAS GET NEW GUN LAWS
My home state of Arizona got nine new laws in 2009, plus other changes since the 23rd edition of The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide was released. The Lone Star state got changes in 2009 and changes in 2007 since the 6th edition of The Texas Gun Owner's Guide was released.

NATIONAL TRAINING WEEK -- July 4 to July 11, 2009
The week around Independence Day is being established as National Training Week -- a time when Americans go to the range to exercise their right to keep and bear arms. Ranges are encouraged to offer free handgun rentals, discounts, classes and other incentives to recognize and support our freedoms. Fireworks, firearms and freedom -- what a great celebration of the 4th of July! Please ask your local range to take part, details posted here.

OBAMA'S END RUN ON CONGRESS WITH INT'L GUN TREATY
April 24, 2009. An international gun treaty would enact gun controls more draconian than anything ever attempted, and eliminate a vote in the House of Representatives, where 65 Democrats are in open revolt over Obama's anti-rights gun plans. Entire treaty is analyzed here in plain English. Also, EPA is being used to bypass the Second Amendment, and notes about the acute ammo shortage.

ARIZONA UPDATE: Events Coming, Insider News
Potential gun bans at the NRA Convention Center in Phoenix (May 15-17) have been defeated, carry will not be infringed; A revolutionary-era Committee for Safety has been formed in Prescott, Ariz., for a Patriot's Day celebration on April 19, I'll be there; Massive tax protest set for the state capital on April 15; Gigantic Crossroads gun show coming April 25-26.

COMMITTEE FOR THE BILL OF RIGHTS FORMING
Feb. 10, 2009. Without even asking, people nationwide are clamoring for a BOR Committee to start enforcing the Bill of Rights against the federal and state governments. Hear their pleas, look at the logic, and check out some of the answers and action plans that are in the works.

STATES DEMANDING 10TH AMENDMENT PROTECTION
Feb. 7, 2009. States are fed up with federal usurpation of their powers, and are starting to find a backbone. At least seven have introduced resolutions demanding the feds cease and desist from exercising any undelegated powers. Links and highlights to each one. All 50 states belong on this list.

YOUR RIGHTS IN A VEHICLE
Feb. 1, 2009. This tactfully addresses the Second Amendment for local travel and parking without directly citing 2A. "Any legally owned private property may be kept in or on a means of transportation at any place the means of transportation may legally be." Read the model legislation, it's short, suggest it to you legislators.

GUN-RIGHTS LICENSING PLANNED and SHOT Show Recap
Jan. 21, 2009. People complain it's just scare tactics when rights activists holler about gun bans. Here's the bill that proves them right, HR 45 from Illinois congressman Bobby Rush, which goes beyond gun bans to ban gun owners. So far outside constitutional boundaries it defies belief -- the man deserves to be removed from office. Also, a brief SHOT Show report with pictures.

GUN BAN LISTS REVEALED
Jan. 5, 2009. Preliminary Brady/Democrat gun-ban lists for Obama for 2009 are on the record, you can read them here and it will get worse -- if that's possible -- when the new versions are released. The Attorney General gets carte blanche to make bans, and any firearms used by military or feds would be presumed banned to the public.

BILL OF RIGHTS DAY 2008 - AT THE WRIGLEY MANSION!
Coming Dec. 15, 2008 -- Honor the Bill of Rights on the day it was ratified in 1791, at the exquisite Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix. An evening you won't forget, with oratory by "Patrick Henry" and a solemn reading, out loud, from a parchment copy of the document that changed the world. Refreshments, companionship, a splendid time is guaranteed for all. Can't get to Phoenix? Celebrate at a place near you.
Read about the event -- people aren't in the streets with pitchforks yet, but a lot of anger is festering over the way politicians are trampling our fundamental rights.

OBAMA GUN BAN PLANS -- PRELIMINARY
Dec. 1, 2008. Sarah Brady, speaking for the Brady Campaign, calls president-elect Obama and VP-elect Biden, "two of the most powerful allies we have ever had." This is what Obama called "respect for the Second Amendment," -- being named the champion of the anti-gun-rights movement. The Brady's four-point plan is described, and it is NOT respect for the Second Amendment, it is a ferocious assault on rights every American has today -- but may not have tomorrow.

HOPE FOR OBAMA'S PROPOSED "ASSAULT-WEAPON" BILL
Obama can unite the nation on the gun issue -- if he does the right thing. It's spelled out here in just a few words, easy to do, and a good thing if he does it. Will he? Permission granted to send this letter to your local news editors, and fight the good fight.

THE HELLER CASE: GUN RIGHTS AFFIRMED!
It's the Supreme Court case that saved the Second Amendment and strengthens the right to keep and bear arms for all Americans -- and now it's a book. All the insider details, the entire decision spelled out in plain English, how anti-rights activists plan to use it against us, plus summaries of all 96 Supreme Court gun-related cases (don't believe the hooey that the Court has been quiet about this!). If your rights are important to you, at least take a look.
Heller case press releases and news from Bloomfield Press

BIDS v. NICS
If we must have gun-buyer background checks to stop criminals, do it without compiling massive records on the innocent. A simple system called BIDS does this at far less cost than NICS. Basically, BIDS distributes the list of hardcore prohibited possessors to federally licensed firearm dealers. Dealers check their customers against the computerized list to lockout illegal sales. This maintains the privacy of innocent citizens, stops criminals, and eliminates the potential for illegal government registries.

D.C. ISSUES ITS NEW GUN LAWS, POST HELLER
As expected, the District of Columbia is doing everything possible to undermine the Supreme Court ruling in Heller, to make it virtually (instead of completely) impossible to use a firearm for self defense in the home, and place registration requirements so abusive that few may wish to act under the new dictates and “amnesty” program. Our directory takes you to the actual laws, Page Nine #49 has a summary.

GUNSHOT DEMOGRAPHICS
The ugly underbelly of the anti-gun-rights argument is that most "gun deaths" are strictly limited by demographics, geography, and social and economic factors kept swept under the rug. If it became known how much "gun violence" is a result of the war on some drugs and "bad neighborhoods," we could 1) drastically reduce the problem by addressing the root causes, and 2) stop attacking people's rights in the name of stopping crime. Stunning maps reveal the unsavory truth.

DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY NATL. SYMPOSIUM on HANDGUN VIOLENCE
James Brady a no-show -- wife Sarah hospitalized
Can a pro-rights position survive an anti-rights rally? Ten of the leading gun-control advocates in the nation were scheduled for a coordinated review of “reasonable” limits on the right to keep and bear arms, led by Jim Brady himself, along with David Hemenway of Harvard and a host of others. I was invited to provide balance. Ten to one against. Hah. I had them outnumbered.

D.C. v. HELLER GUN-BAN CASE -- EYEWITNESS REPORT AND PICTURES
I was honored with a reserved seat in chambers for this historic case on 3/18/08, as a guest of the Marshal of the Court, while my friend Bob Blackmer got in by camping out overnight on the line. We had an amazing time and got a first-hand look at what happened. I posted a night-before eyewitness report, an immediate-after analysis, a post-event analysis, and a ton of photos -- very different than what the news showed.

"NICS IMPROVEMENT ACT" FIXED AND SIGNED INTO LAW
Quietly, the incredibly dangerous anti-rights gun law drafted by the Brady group and its allies, HR 2640, has been rewritten by attorneys coordinated by the NRA. The new bill, though not perfect, is a giant leap ahead of the highly controversial first draft, and was signed into law by president Bush on Jan. 8, 2008. The law puts certifiable mental cases on the no-guns list, and provides tools for getting yourself off the list.

SUPREME COURT TAKES ITS 96TH GUN CASE
The nation is buzzing about District of Columbia v. Heller as if it's the first gun case at the High Court in decades -- since the Miller case in 1939. It's actually the 64th gun case since Miller, and we have the details you won't find elsewhere. Heller will most likely be heard in March and decided in June, 2008. It could reaffirm or reverse the public's right to arms. The first 92 cases are in Supreme Court Gun Cases, which we published after six years of research.

EXCELLENT NEW BOOKS AND DVDs
I have found and posted 35 brand new books and DVDs for gun owners --
on self defense, non-lethal force, gun rights, advanced carry techniques, and
The Founders Package -- books the Founding Fathers read and wrote!
Also -- survival, gun politics, knife tactics and more. Look see.

MULTIPLE ARIZONA EVENTS IN DECEMBER 2007

Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. Gigantic three-day special gun show at Phoenix Fairgrounds, with free admission for volunteers who staff the Arizona Citizens Defense League table for several hours and help hand out magnets, flyers, brochures, and keep an eye on things. RSVP: president@AzCDL.org. Includes the Big Arms Review show -- anti-aircraft, armored vehicles, extreme calibers, more.

The Cartridge Family Band makes a rare appearance on Sat., Dec. 1 at the Sheriff Joe Arpaio Roast. See “America’s Toughest Sheriff” roasted alive in the 7,000-seat Sundome arena!

Sat. Dec. 8. Aaron Russo's Restore The Republic is holding its "Hope for America Conference” in Arizona. I'll be joining an excellent panel of speakers, don't miss it. A philanthropist has agreed to sponsor the event so it will be FREE to the public (was $70)!

Sat., Dec. 15 is the Bill of Rights Day Celebration.
Groups and individuals nationwide are encouraged to gather, dine, and read the Bill of Rights out loud, in a celebration of the freedoms it has helped preserve, on the day it was ratified in 1791. It’s easy, fun, free, helps save the world... Special affair at the elegant Scottsdale Plaza Resort this year.

GUN LAW UPDATE: TEXAS GETS CASTLE DOCTRINE, MORE
Citizens by-and-large like it, anti-rights advocates don't -- a criminal breaking into your home or vehicle can be shot, you don't have to run away, and they can't just sue you afterwards. Reasonable common-sense gun laws are making more headway. Also: Student suspended for a laser-gun sketch is bad policy and ignorant.

GUN OWNERS WITHOUT BORDERS
Taking a cue from other successful human-rights groups, author Alan Korwin is calling for international recognition of a person's right to live, which supercedes state sovereignty and any justifications used to exterminate individuals anywhere in the world.

RIGHTS-DENIAL LIST TO INCREASE
Broadly defined "mental cases" may add as many as 21 million more records to the NICS rights-denial database, under HR 2640, being debated in June 2007. Rights restoration procedures are included, and they may actually work. The Dept. of Homeland Security will be required to add its records to the database. Some gun-rights advocates applaud the move, to weed out nut jobs, others aren't so sure.

THE GUNS AMONG US
Here is a rational response to wildly promoted psychopathic atrocities featured on Page One in the national news media. People who believe the only purpose of a gun is to kill are mistaken—victims of relentless propaganda. Guns save lives. When a maniac goes crazy, you send in people... with guns. This is the unedited version of the highly acclaimed Uninvited Ombudsman editorial from the 500,000-circulation Arizona Republic newspaper on May 6, 2007.

U.S. AIR MARSHAL PISTOL DRILL
Now that you can't even bring an eye tweezer on an airplane, the U.S. Air Marshal service is in full swing, recruiting and training new members. Could you qualify? This is one tough course of fire.

D.C. GUN BAN ENDS AFTER 31 YEARS (Gun Law Update 3/14/07)
My eblast updates reach tens of thousands and include news and analysis you don't get elsewhere. Click here to get on the list. This edition was bristling with sizzling items -- 1- Court Restores Gun Rights to D.C. (insider analysis); 2- News Media Non-Plussed Over Restoration of Rights; 3- "Supreme Court Gun Cases" Book Named to All-Time Top Ten List; 4- Gun Sales Up, Gov't Tax Revenue Increases; 5- Gun Ownership Up But Firearm Fatalities Hit Record Lows; 6- "Sudden Jihadi Syndrome" Identified.

DEMS NEW GUN BAN PLAN & "DEPT. OF PEACE"
Bill Clinton's expired gun ban named 19 firearms, Democrats new plan names more than 60, plus any semi-auto long gun "with a grip" and anything the Attorney General decides to add without Congress. Their bill for a Dept. of Peace is a cabinet-level indoctrination and policy bureaucracy with huge staff, sweeping powers, tremendous budget, and is being sold as an enlightened think tank... that will have controls over the Defense Dept. Under the radar for now, as they build support by getting ignorant city councils to endorse the concept.

BILL OF RIGHTS DAY LUNCHEON 2006
Recognize and celebrate the document that helps protect your freedom!
You can do this at any restaurant near you. On Dec. 15, the day the BOR was ratified in 1791, get together with other people and read the Bill of Rights aloud. It is a magical moment, a wonderful reflective pause, well worth the effort. In Phoenix, the 5th annual BOR Day will be held at The Goldwater Institute. RSVP now to secure your seat at this extra special event. You will remember the day for a long time to come.

THE LEFT WING'S PLANS FOR GUNS
After six years of Republican rule it's easy to forget what the left, and Democrats in general, think about guns, and what they would do to your gun rights if they regain power. They have been suspiciously quiet in the run up to the Nov. 2006 elections, because they want you to stay asleep. Remember "arsenal licenses" for five or more guns, and heavy taxes on ammunition? These ideas haven't gone away, they've gone underground, waiting for a chance to bloom in a perfect left-wing world. "Why would an honest person even want a gun?" See their list.

ANTI-GUN BIAS IN THE NEWS
The finest documented account of media anti-gun bias I've ever seen. While these conditions remain tolerated and in place, the media has no legitimate claim to ethical behavior. More resources on the corrupt deceptions perpetrated by media people who pretend to be fair, balanced, unbiased, objective, ethical, neutral protectors of all that is good.

GUN LAW UPDATES FOR TEXAS AND ARIZONA
Texas has seen 83 changes to its gun laws since The Texas Gun Owner's Guide last came out (edition 5), for a whopping 13% increase in its gun statutes. All the Texas changes are included in the new Sixth Edition, scheduled for release on August 18, 2006. The Arizona legislature changed or introduced 17 statutes in its most recent session. Detailed descriptions of all the changes are now posted on our update pages. Two interesting highlights: Texas made recreational vehicles (motor homes and similar) a "premises," so occupants have full freedom to carry when in one; Arizona made it a crime to interfere with a hunt by putting yourself in the line of fire. Much more of course, and much of it good.

GUN LAW UPDATES FOR AZ AND VA FOR 2006
It just doesn't quit—legislatures are churning out new gun laws at a bewildering pace. The brand new 6th Edition of The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide (released June 2006) has an astounding 19% increase in gun laws, Arizona (22nd Edition, Jan. '06) is not as bad but still —it's becoming impossible to keep up. Virginia's changes are mostly for the better. Everything is posted in plain English for your convenience.

"PAGE NINE" REPORTS
What would happen if just one page in the nations' major newspapers would cover the day's stories as they ought to read, not the way left-wing news rooms color things? Like FOX on steroids, but right up the middle, for the print world, it would be the most read page in the paper. Well here it is—a creative product of my fertile brain—and available online while the newspapers try to figure it out. Actually, an increasing number of publications, websites and radio shows are now carrying these reports about the lamestream media, from yours truly, "The Uninvited Ombudsman."

POST SHOOTING PROCEDURES (Cheney Incident)
The following rules generally apply after a shooting incident (accidental or self-defense), whether you are the Vice President of the United States or not. A person is least capable of making a coherent and consistent statement, with good word choices and chronological accuracy, immediately after the shock and trauma of a shooting incident, even though the urge to talk is typically great, and everyone around you will encourage it. Standard police guidelines set a good model—no statement for 48 hours, and then it's in writing.

WHY JOURNALISTS GET IT WRONG
In a move virtually without precedent, the Society of Professional Journalists' Phoenix chapter staged a meeting to examine, "Why Journalists Get It Wrong," at a quiet private location in the northeast valley. The report from this session includes four lists of reasons, from the usual suspects (too busy, poorly educated, laziness), to the rotten underbelly (categorical omissions, agendas, hatred of some subjects). SPJ deserves praise for venturing into areas that reporters often prefer to pretend don't exist.

NEW BRADY ANTI-GUN STRATEGY REVEALED: "DECOMMISSIONING"
The Brady group and its congressional supporters are proceeding, and making headway, with a below-radar effort to ban operating firearms from the general public, without having to actually disarm America's 95 million gun owners. A single legal phrase has now been quietly slipped into federal law in eight places. The latest is tucked into the pro-rights Protection of Lawful Commerce in Firearms Act.

LEFT-RIGHT BIAS
The news media uses terms like "left" and "right wing" without conscious thought, and distorts the coverage you see.It is a special threat to gun ownership. What are these words, and what do they mean? Is the media hiding socialist encroachments on freedom? Yes they are, and here's the scoop they keep from you. It happens everywhere, all the time, but they continue to deny it.

"SCHOOL ZONE" PUBLIC GUN BAN
The Gun-Free School Zones act criminalizes every lawful gun owner who travels with a firearm outside the home, with a few narrow exceptions. It was never intended to do this, and needs to be amended. Schools themselves would remain gun-free zones, and the near-total gun ban this law creates would be corrected. Sen. Feinstein named this law, during the Judge Roberts confirmation hearings, as an example of a law that needs to be upheld. Many politicians are quietly aware of the ban it creates.

MORE GUN LAW UPDATES POSTED
Arizona had five new gun laws enacted for 2005. Texas had 13, including a major overhaul of its "traveling" statute, which had baffled Texans for more than 125 years. Virginia also passed a passel of new gun laws. Get to any or all of them from the Updates/Position Papers index page linked above.

FEDERAL GUN LAWS RISE 17% IN DECADE
The Tenth Anniversary edition of our flagship book, Gun Laws of America, has brought many issues to light. Released in July 2005, we can see federal laws are growing with no end in sight; power is shifting from the public to the government with passage of special "Power to Carry" laws for agents; some good laws are going on the books too. A complete overhaul integrates every previous update section into the main text.

MINUTEMAN EYEWITNESS REPORT
With gun rights under a microscope, I had to go down to the Arizona-Mexico border and see what was going on for myself. My full report is now posted. The mainstream news reports are completely misleading -- these are decent people, no racism, no vigilantes, simply observing and reporting, from land they have a right to be on. A 100% no-contact-with-immigrants polcy, sidearms remain holstered at all times, first-rate support from Border Patrol, and most Minutemen are down there armed. May 1, 2005.

HIGH SCHOOL MARKSMANSHIP CREDIT
Arizona has enacted a one-credit class toward a high school diploma, called the Arizona Gun Safety Program, that requires a student to safely discharge a firearm at a target, in order to pass. It's the first in the nation, I drafted the bill, and other states are eager to enact their own. April, 2005.

NEWS MEDIA ACCURACY HOPELESSLY LOW
When it comes to gun issues, at least, the media has it so wrong it's humiliating. Here are numerous clear examples, and the official Code of Ethics that few of them follow. Studies, stats, samples from the NY Times, Washington Times, Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, more. Get a laugh from journalists official "Ethics Week." March, 2005.

FLORIDA'S CASTLE DOCTRINE
A fine new law that protects the innocent, holds violent predators accountable, brings justice back into the system, but the news media falsely portrays it as Wild West silliness. See what this law really does.

RESTAURANT CARRY DEFEATED BY TWISTED NEWS REPORTS
If the media covered it accurately, restaurant carry probably would have passed, as it has in 34 other states. So they lied, used bigoted slurs, promoted nonsense about bringing shotguns into nightclubs, and narrowly defeated a good bill that would make everyone safer.

THE LAST REFUGE FOR HATE: GUN HATE
The Dept. of Justice released a definitive study that shows the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right. Though gun rights enthusiasts hailed the report, and it is truly excellent, the battle for gun rights is really about bigotry and hatred, and scholarly work fails to affect the core problem. It's time for the medical community to recognize and study "hoplophobia," morbid fear of firearms. Jan. 2005.

SUPREME COURT HEARS ITS 93RD GUN CASE
The High Court has heard the case of Gary Sherwood Small, indicted for a federal violation that hinges on a conviction he suffered in a Japanese court, under conditions that would never be allowed in a U.S. court. Oral arguments were heard on Nov. 3, 2004, a decision is expected in 2005.

RECOGNIZING A DECADE OF CONCEALED-WEAPON PERMITS
ATTEND THE BIG BANQUET!
Ten years after the first permits were issued in Arizona, the law has proven to be a great success. Lives have been saved, crimes prevented, and the fear-mongering bigots who predicted blood in the streets can be seen as essentially delusional. On Oct. 2, 2004, a massive banquet recognizes the value of this law, acknowledges the wisdom of an armed citizenry and the Second Amendment, sets the stage for seeking Vermont/Alaska-style permitless carry, and explores the value of self defense. Activists nationwide should consider banquet events in their states. Ours garnered direct support from an unprecedented coalition of rights organizations: NRA, GOA, SAF, NSSF and JPFO all cooperating with our local Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association.

DOZENS OF SUPREME COURT GUN CASES DISCOVERED
The Supreme Court has not been quiet as you have been told. They have handled 92 cases involving guns, used the word gun in some form 2,910 times! Fourteen amazing self-defense cases; The Court has consistently recognized the individual right to arms for two centuries. Six years of work available in my newest book. Co-authors are David Kopel, Stephen Halbrook, Alan Korwin

THE GUN-FREE-ZONE LIABILITY ACT
"If you create a gun-free zone, you're liable for any harm it causes."
Good news! Both Arizona and Georgia have put this bill in their legislatures for 2003 (HB2320 in AZ, HB31 in GA). Gun-free zones are known to be dangerous --they are reckless, negligent, and a denial of civil rights that is long overdue for a closer look. Maybe this bill belongs in your legislature too. Read the bill (it's short) and the talking points on our website.

Rewrites the book on questions for political candidates -- Try a few of these next time you're in earshot of a politician. A collaborative effort by Alan Korwin, Mike Anthony, Vin Suprynowicz.

POLITICALLY CORRECTED Glossary of Terms
View/print a PDF version     (Click here to get Adobe's Acrobat PDF reader for free.)

We've all talked about how we're losing the war of words in the struggle for our liberties. People who would deny your rights have done a good job of manipulating the language so far. Without even realizing it, you're probably using terms that actually help the people who want to disarm you. Well here comes the cavalry.

THE BIG LIE
What do you say to people who tell you the Second Amendment doesn't protect your rights (as it always used to)? This editorial has been widely published by newspapers and flew the email circuit; it is available for download and sets the facts straight. Show it to revisionists who would disembowel rights Americans have always had, and ask them to personally volunteer for "the citizen's gun-free pledge," instead of trying to disarm you. See "Position Papers and Updates"

THE ONLY QUESTION ABOUT GUN REGISTRATION
The "common-sense" proposal to list America's gun owners overlooks a simple but crucial point -- how would writing down my name, or your name, help stop crime? Before enormous fortunes are spent on making national lists of innocent people, these issues must be examined. Read this compelling, researched editorial, and perhaps decide to send it to the media in your town. See "Position Papers and Updates"

UPDATES IN THE WAYBACK MACHINE:

NEW ARIZONA GUN LAWS POSTED FOR 2004
The 21st edition of the first book I ever wrote, The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide,
is now out and it has 53 changes from prior book. Big stuff like new terrorism
laws, weird stuff like the newly prohibited "gas pressure bomb," and important
stuff like serious range protection laws. See it all and stay up to date.

NEW TEXAS GUN LAWS FOR 2003
Texas had some winners in 2003 -- uninfringed gun rights in motorhomes,
limits on local government abuses, rapid permits for new residents,
recognition instead of reciprocity for other states; also some "arm the
government" laws thatr give officials rights you don't have.

NOTES ON FEDERAL GUN LAW
Feb. 2003 -- Federal gun law has grown 6.5% since Oct. 2000,
to a new total of 94,333 words.See the new federal gun laws tucked
into The Patriot Act, Aviation and Transportation Security Act, and
Homeland Security Act: 5,749 new words of law, in 22 separate sections,
all included in the new 4th Edition of Gun Laws of America.

There is a disturbing trend toward arming "the proper authorities"
where you and I can't be armed. The government is essentially authorizing
itself to have unrestricted Second Amendment rights while the public by
default gets the right to bear arms curtailed. It's quite clever actually.
The net result is six new federal "police forces" (listed). These are
government employees who can pretty much bear arms at all times.
Now wouldn't that be a nice right to have!

GUN SHOW BILL IS NOT WHAT THEY SAY
Mass media publicity on the proposed McCain-Lieberman
Gun Show Bill is grossly inaccurate. It's really about federal
registration of gun shows, vendors, and every person who attends.
Detailed analysis in plain English.

GUN SHOW BILL IS EVEN WORSE
Could Close Gun Shows Completely
If anyone at a gun show offers (not even sells, but offers) a gun to
anyone else at the show -- even a gun they don't have with them -- the
seller, buyer, AND gun show operator can be arrested. You don't even
need a prohibited possessor (a criminal) involved. No operator will run
a show with that kind of legal risk. Full plain-English descriptions,
with citations.

SHOULD CONGRESS CLOSE DOWN GUN SHOWS?

The McCain-Lieberman bill practically requires gun-show closures --
but they're not mentioning it, and the media doesn't know it. Here is a
Letter to the Editor, a short and sweet summary, that you can mail
yourself to wake up your local reporters.

WILL BUREAUCRATS CLOSE TONTO FOREST TO THE PUBLIC?
Federal bureaucrats running the Tonto National Forest (2.9 million acres
of public land basically north of Phoenix) are talking about closing
sections to public access. One of the main goals is to eliminate
outdoor marksmanship.

TEXAS GUN LAW UPDATE

The Texas Gun Owner's Guide

Changes to Edition 4 that appear in Edition 5, issue date March 2002.
Texas gun laws were affected in 2001 by 19 bills (out of 5,514 filed and 1,600 enacted), during the 77th session. This lead to a net gain of 1,348 words, or 3.2% growth in Texas gun law, to a total of 43,390 words.  The text and law in The Texas Gun Owner's Guide (5th Edition, 2002) were updated to reflect the changes and all the changes are posted on our website.  Each bill can be viewed in its entirety on the Texas state website, www.capitol.state.tx.us/

A 30-STATE 'SHALL ISSUE' CARRY-LICENSE GUIDE
"Licensed to Carry" by Greg Jeffery

If you want to know what it takes to get licensed in 30 "shall issue" states, get this book. Author Greg Jeffery produced this incredibly detailed report to compare Missouri's proposed carry law (remember the fight over "Proposition B"?) to all the other states. In the process he learned they were oddly lucky to see Prop B fail, because it would have been the most restrictive license nationally.

Covers each state's requirements for eligibility, background checks, training requirements, permitted weapons, permit forms, waiting periods, reciprocity, penalty for unlicensed carry, applicant qualifications, places where carry is prohibited, who issues the license, what it costs, renewal fees and much more. See how your state stacks up.

Packed with charts and graphs, it even includes stats on the number of licenses issued and revoked. The only other thing you'll need is a travel agent. This book is extra fine. For more info, or to get a copy, take a peek at our books!

VIRGINIA
The legislature was busy in 1998 and 1999, increasing gun law 4.4% and 5.8% respectively, to a new total of 34,184 words. The new 3rd edition of "The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide" contains all the changes, and the update list is now available for anyone interested, numbered to match the prior edition of the guide. See "Position Papers and Updates"

ARIZONA
The new state reciprocity list is posted, along with some thoughts about the whole concept of having reciprocity -- instead of what you might recall we used to have -- Second Amendment rights. See "Position Papers and Updates"

FEDERAL
Federal gun law grew by 5.75% in 1998 to a total of 88,584 words (nothing changed in 1999). Most people have never heard about any of this. Now posted in plain English, ready for download. The new 3rd edition of "Gun Laws of America" contains all the statute language, and the committee report text, plus the "gists" posted here. See "Position Papers and Updates"

SHANNON'S LAW
Arizona is wrestling with a classic case of a feel-good do-nothing law that tramples the rights of honest people while doing nothing to stop the crime it pretends to address. National implications here, especially if the excellent alternative proposal, a tax credit for firearms training, takes hold and passes instead. See  "Shannon's Law"

THE BYRNE GRANT
Contains all the details on obtaining federal grant money for training the public in marksmanship and the safe use and handling of guns. See "Position Papers and Updates"

NICS CLOSES GUN STORES MORE THAN 8 DAYS
Gun sales nationwide have been shut down for more than eight days by the FBI; they blame the computer for this abrogation of your rights. Get news about the National Instant Background Check you won't see in the papers or on TV.

At the risk of sounding too mercenary, people like yourself who think deeply about these subjects would likely benefit from and enjoy a copy of my book "Gun Laws of America," now in its fully revised Fifth Edition (2005). You can look at it HERE. But wait, why should I apologize? I believe in free markets, private ownership of property and capitalism!! If you're fighting for your rights and it leaves you broke, maybe you could be doing a better job somehow!! (The antis have no compunction about raising money for their cause.)
